Bloc Party to release new album this week

'Intimacy' is available to buy on Thursday (August 21)

Bloc Party will release their new album in three days time (August 21) - but you'll be able to hear a new song from the record exclusive on NME.COM from Tuesday (19) afternoon.

The band announced the shock release during a webchat with fans on blocparty.com today (August 18).

NME.COM can exclusively reveal that 'Intimacy', the band's third album, is available to pre-order on CD and mp3 from Blocparty.com now.

Fans can choose whether to pay either £5 for a high-quality mp3 bundle (to be delivered on August 21), £8 for a CD (to be delivered on October 27), or £10 for a combined order of both CD and mp3 bundle.

'Intimacy' was recorded in two separate sessions, as the band chose to work with both Paul Epworth and Jacknife Lee on the record.

The CD release of 'Intimacy' will include additional tracks unavailable on the mp3 bundle release.

The tracklisting for 'Intimacy' will be:

'Ares'
'Mercury'
'Halo'
'Biko'

Whens it available in the shops? and are all the songs dance sounding like Flux and Mercury or will there be some "traditional" Bloc Party songs like Hunting For Witches and my all time favourite I Still Remember, learn that on the guitar chaps it's better than any Kings Of Leon riff :)

Best thing Bloc Party have ever done... releasing it this way I mean, and maybe the music itself, who knows! This is the way forward, long live the web usic revolution that just keeps getting better and stronger as leeches in suits get pushed out of the equation. Established bands like Bloc Party and Radiohead (though there's no other comparison between them of course) can do this alone and it'll work - but for new bands there are vrilliant sites like cherryecho.com and aralie to provide a starting boost.

I think it will go into shops on October 27th. I'm definitely going for the CD/MP3 bundle though. I hope the majority of the album sounds less like Mercury and more like Helicopter/Hunting for Witches. Can't wait.

What I don't get is why people who dont like this great band actually take the time to read the article only to trash em, do you not have anythin better to do? The last album they did was awesome, some of the best guitar work on it ive ever heard, all out class. If ya dont think this is good news like the peoples with good taste here, go back to listenin to Lily Allen, ya fruits.

....GazNo1...i'm bored at work that's why i read it..but best guitar work you've ever heard by these no-marks????....i think you need to broaden your horizons a bit my friend, its just that current-run-of-the-mill way of strumming the guitar that every fucking modern band does because its in fashion, like those other god awful twats Foals.....utter utter dogshite, songs with no tunes, horrible vocalist, spikey pop garbage....and i can't stand Lilo Allen either....ya vegetable....lol...

I respect ya reply other gaz, as for broadening my horizons, they are as broad as can be, i listen to a huge amount of music, and judge it on the skill i think it took to make it and the fact that whether or nt its original. I feel Bloc Party's work stands out from the hoards of "twats" as u put it in fashion these days and god knows there are a bunch, just quite a few ppl here are happy about this news, so i dont see the need to rain on the parade. If ya dont like Bloc Party, say it respectfully like "im not a fan, this is not amusing news to me, blah blah". Otherwise, why bother.

Tell us what you think. We’ll print the best responses in the NME letters page each week.
